History
Over 400 Years Of History
The Comber area has been synomous with growing potatoes for many centuries and is intertwined with the history of 2 Ulster Scots families, the Hamiltons and the Montgomerys.
Indeed there are still Hamiltons growing Comber Earlies to this day.
Apparently one of the earliest references to growing potatoes in Ireland can be found in the Montgomery manuscripts written by William Montgomery which dates from 1606. This refers to land in Comber being ‘given’ over for potato production.
Within our own group of farmers there are families who have been growing potatoes on their land around Comber for 6 generations.
Surely this demonstrates the real pedigree of tradition and heritage our brand has.
